On August 15, there were rumours involving JP Morgan investing $20 million in Ethereum development firm ConsenSys. This was estimated to be a part of the total investment deal worth $ 50 million, and ConsenSys could also merge with JPMorgan’s blockchain development unit Quorum to take over support and maintenance aspects. US banking giant JPMorgan Chase Bank’s blockchain, Quorum, will be used to “tokenize” gold bars. Quorum is the enterprise version of the Ethereum blockchain, developed by JPMorgan Chase, which will ensure users operate smart contracts while using pre-programmed rules to automate them. According to The Australian Financial Review, JP Morgan is seriously committed to the development of Quorum, a product defined by the bank as “an enterprise-focused version of Ethereum.” One of the main immediate uses will be the tokenization of gold bars that the firm will have in custody. JP Morgan has announced a successful blockchain-based repo transaction – with the potential to reduce such payments to hours rather than days. The intraday repo transaction, between JP Morgan’s broker dealer and banking entity, was settled on both ends through blockchain technology.
